Student Competition 2nd Honorable Mention - With Julian Edelmann
Jury statement:
"The project proposes an„accessible sculpture“ which docks on to the existing business structures and extends them in a park like fashion. The entire sculpture is functionally active during the day and night by sun / rain protection and lighting. The sculptural form and its in-depth detailing are highly appreciated and especially emphasized. The different experiences and the somewhat obtrusive appearance of the sculpture on the square are intensively discussed.
The strongly creative and innovative moment, which is particularly evident in the very high degree of elaboration, is judged to be a relevant statement. It was questioned whether the usability of the sculpture was explicitly planned by the designers. The functional crossings along the longitudinal axis speak for a controlled and thoughtful design, for a structure which is not easy to grasp. The details, the choice of materials and their production or connection are reminiscent of a shattered ship and evoke multi-layered possibilities of interpretation.
Among other things, it is described as a „masculine and dynamic figure“. The jury assumes that this sculpture would become another architectural artefact of the city of Innsbruck that would be explicitly visited by tourists and visitors with an affinity for architecture. The visionary approach, which is formulated in great detail, is particularly appreciated by the jury. It was decided to award the project „Der Stadtoliphant“ the 2nd honorable mention."
